The Workshop

We're excited to welcome Mellow Park to the Let's Animate studio for a full day character design workshop. This is a dedicated art and illustration session focused purely on building characters from scratch, no animation or stop motion involved, just drawing, creativity, and character. Mellow Park will be leading the whole day, sharing their process, their inspiration, and the techniques they use to design their own characters. What you'll learn The day starts with a look at character design fundamentals: why silhouette matters, how shape tells your audience who a character is before they've even spoken, and how colour choices shape personality. Mellow Park will bring real examples to show these ideas in action. From there it's warm up exercises to get the creative ideas flowing, before you start designing your own character from scratch. There's no pressure and no rules. Bring an idea, invent something new on the spot, or reimagine a favourite character as your own. Whether they're a person, an animal, an object, or something entirely made up, this is your character and your choice. After lunch you'll keep developing and refining your design, with Mellow Park on hand to help, before transferring your final version onto quality paper or card. Then it's on to colouring, shading, and simple lighting techniques to give your character real depth. If you finish early, there's the option to build out a background and environment for your final piece too. We'll wrap the day by sharing our creations around the table and finishing with a fun group drawing game, the Character Totem, before everyone heads home with their finished character and a goody bag. Who it's for This workshop is suited to anyone aged 7 and up who loves drawing, illustration, or storytelling. No experience necessary, just bring your imagination.
